The Pottery Museum's primary mission is to study, document, conserve, and disseminate its pottery collections, while also playing an active role in supporting and collaborating in the preservation, research, and promotion of the national pottery heritage, whether belonging to private collections or other institutions. Since opening to the public in 1995, the Museum has consistently included contemporary ceramics in its annual program. This commitment aims to attract nationally and internationally renowned ceramists, present new approaches to ceramics, explore innovative techniques, and promote artistic concepts that broaden the understanding of clay as a means of expression. Through this strategy, the Museum seeks to demonstrate to its visitors that ceramics, beyond tradition, continually reinvents itself as a territory of creativity, experimentation, and design.
Within this context, ceramicist Maya Fernandes Kempe exhibits her work at the Pottery Museum. Her work reveals a deep connection to the land and Portuguese culture, particularly the legends and landscapes of Alentejo, where she lives and finds inspiration. The pieces now on display reveal a unique artistic sensibility, reflecting the dialogue between the artist's personal imagination and the symbolic universe of nature. For three months, visitors will be able to enjoy this exhibition in the Chapel Room, a space that houses Maya Kempe's creations - works that are sure to touch and enchant.
