Pottery from Northern Portugal

This exhibition features utilitarian pottery pieces from the most important pottery centres in Northern Portugal. These pieces were designed for everyday household use and met the needs of families.

Included in the display are black pottery, matte red pottery, and glazed pottery from Parada de Gatim, Barcelos, Guimarães, Bisalhães, Vilar de Nantes, Selhariz, Pinela, Felgar, and Gondar.

Once commonly used in all Portuguese homes, utilitarian pottery started to fall into disuse in the 1970s, replaced by plastic and metal utensils.
