Portugal´s Pottery
Permanent
The exhibition of Portugal´s Pottery invites you to explore over a hundred years of Portuguese pottery and figure production, from the process of extracting clay to preparing the paste to be worked by the potter, including the unique characteristics of each production center. The journey begins in Barcelos, proceeding on the first floor to the districts of Vila Real and Bragança. Climb the stairs, and you will find the districts of Guarda, Castelo Branco, Viseu, Coimbra, Aveiro, Portalegre, Lisbon, and Leiria. Enjoy the surroundings of the Alentejo and continue through the Algarve to the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores. On the third floor, the antiquity and creativity of the Figurado of Barcelos herald several changes. As you descend, you will find the decorative pottery produced in this municipality since the late 19th century, where you will learn more about the history of this museum. To end your visit, enjoy some of the contemporary works.
We invite you to take a tour to discover Portuguese ceramics.
