Plats de Manises
Archive
Barcelos hosts, at the Pottery Museum, an exhibition of ceramics from Manises, a Spanish town that, like Barcelos, is part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. These two cities share significant affinities, not only in having international recognition from UNESCO but also in being part of the same Creative City category – Crafts and Folk Art. Both share a centuries-old tradition of ceramic production.
The exhibition “Plats de Manises” presents 27 pieces of ceramic tableware created by 13 artisans from Manises. This exhibition is complemented by 27 recipes from the traditional cuisine of Manises, served in various ceramic dishes. Cuisine and ceramics are two key elements to understand why tourism in Manises has a strong gastronomic and artistic personality.
Culinary creations shine on plates bearing the quality and beauty seal of Manises ceramics. This synergy would not be possible without the local community, which has kept the flame of the city's traditional dishes alive in private kitchens and local restaurants. And, alongside them, the ceramic artists who have shaped and painted each piece over the centuries.
