Mistério Generation

Carrying on with the series of exhibitions on the most iconic pottery families in the Barcelos pottery region, the Pottery Museum will start 2019 with an exhibition on the Mistério family.

Well known is the fact that the production of ceramics has long contributed to the economic subsistence of hundreds of families in the pottery region of Barcelos, while simultaneously shaping the social and cultural identity of the municipality. Curiously, in addition to the constant renewal of Barcelos potters, this form of collective know-how does not limit or stifle individual creativity, but rather has allowed the emergence of artisans who, through their unique traits, not only honour the craftsmanship of their families, but also become figurines of recognised national and international prestige.

Along these lines, the protagonists of the Mistério family are an excellent example of how it is possible to reconcile the perpetuation of a name and a memory with the projection of brilliant and unique artistic careers.
