International Museum Day | Sustainability and Well-Being

International Museum Day | Sustainability and Well-Being Archive Music at the Museum, conversations with artisans and artists, live pottery demonstrations, and guided tours. These are the proposals from the Municipality of Barcelos to celebrate International Museum Day, which is held on May 18th.

This year, the theme is: "Sustainability and Well-Being." The initiatives will take place from May 13th to 21st at the Pottery Museum. International Museum Day, celebrated annually on May 18th, was created in 1977 by ICOM – International Council of Museums – to encourage reflection within society about the role of museums in its development.

In 2023, ICOM International presents the theme “Museums, Sustainability and Well-Being,” aiming to highlight the important contribution of museums to the well-being and sustainable development of communities. The programme highlights include:

INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY
May 18th | 10 AM Talk “Artisans and Artists” (Pottery, figurative art, tradition and contemporary aspects, what’s the future?) | initiative under the "Barro à Parede" festival, AEAF. 15 PM Workshop with ceramist Madalena Macedo
