n her latest body of work, presented through a series of fragmented murals suspended by delicate threads, the artist explores the boundaries of ceramics. She evokes the realm of tapestry or Oriental armor, maintaining a constant balance between the fragility of the individual components and the inherent robustness of the medium.

The departure points for Yola Vale’s work are remarkably diverse, drawing inspiration from her travels as well as from the natural world. Deeply concerned with the complex issues of the contemporary world, she reflects upon and gives physical form to her doubts and preoccupations through her creative process.

Yola Vale was born in 1975 in Espinho. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sculpture from the Coimbra University of the Arts (ARCA|EUAC) in 1999, the same year she relocated to Cape Verde to teach Drawing and Descriptive Geometry for a two-year period. In 2001, she moved to Proença-a-Nova, where her studio remains established today. Since then, she has spearheaded numerous ceramic courses and workshops covering introductory techniques, modeling, and ceramic murals, with a particular focus on the Raku firing technique. She regularly participates in international exhibitions, symposia, and biennials, and her works are represented in various public and private collections.
