The Bonecreiro exhibition results from the work developed by artists Alberto Berruto, Auréline Caltagirone, Carolina Garfo, Fábio Araújo, Francesco Caruso, Laura Monteiro, José Sottomayor, and Maria Luísa Ramires during an artist residency organised by POUSIO - Art and Culture in partnership with the Museum, which took place between May and June this year in Barcelos.

Promoting the creation and interdisciplinary experimentation of these emerging artists in contact with local artisans from the municipality, the artist residency aimed to strengthen and energise the research and production surrounding the craft and artistic practices of Barcelos, in dialogue with its community.

Curated by Ana Bacelar Begonha, Bonecreiro, which will take place in the Chapel Room of the Museum, features multidisciplinary works that range from ceramics to screen printing, painting, video, and performance. These works are concerned with reinventing and recontextualising traditional practices, as well as questioning the dichotomies between old and new, digital and material, or real and fictional.

The exhibition will also feature a screening of the documentary Bonecreiros (2021) by Alberto Berruto and Francesco Caruso, about the residency process, in the Museum's Multi-purpose Room on 20th November at 16:00, to mark the week celebrating World Creativity Day.
