Before Heaven by Pedro Figueiredo

It is impossible to sculpt without studying the empty space; form only exists because there is nothing around it. The exhibition “Before Heaven” is developed within this concept, bodies (others), not from the natural world, that inhabit the space and transform it into a scenic moment, turning it into an unknown, yet visible place, capable of connecting Earth to Heaven.

The distance between Nadir and Zenith is no longer unattainable, it is now closer, capable of connecting the past and present of sculpted bodies re-presented and displayed in a void that is no longer empty.

Winged beings, humans and less human beings... and even insects guarding a temple (chapel). Columns raised where even the rooster will crow announcing the beginning of another day... there they are in the space, theatricalizing with the visitors who pass by... in sincere contemplation between truth, the sculptor and contemporary sculpture... All this before Heaven!
